Gianluca Calise started his career at the ministry for the Budget and Economic Planning.
In 1998, Mr Calise joined the IMI Group which merged with San Paolo where he held a number of senior operating roles within the group's private equity and infrastructure investment divisions, including NHS Merchant Bank, Banca OPI and San Paolo IMI Fondi Chiusi SGR.
In 2003, Gianluca Calise joined the Alcedo team at San Paolo IMI and worked alongside Mr Masetti in the setting up and fund raising of funds.
Mr Calise became a senior advisor in Alcedo following the management buyout of the firm.
Gianluca Calise graduated in Economics cum laude from LUISS Guido Carli University where he is associate professor and attended post degree courses at the Italian Bankers' Association (AIB), at the International Center for Monetary and Banking Studies, and at the Australian institute of Banking and Finance, Melbourne.
