Mr. Chip Johns is Venture Partner at Phoenix Strategy Investments LLC.
Mr. Johns is the president of Vanguard Sailboats, a manufacturer of recreational and racing sailboats.
He became the president of Vanguard in 1986 when it had $150,000 in revenue and has since grown Vanguard to over $14 million in revenue.
Under his guidance, Vanguard acquired and integrated two primary competitors.
In 1997 Vanguard purchased Sunfish & Laser, two of the most prestigious and successful small sailboat brands.
In 2001, Vanguard purchased Seitech Marine, a builder of aluminum sailing accessories.
His experience and success building Vanguard into the world's largest manufacturer of sailboats (by volume) will be invaluable to Phoenix Strategy's success.
Prior to acquiring Vanguard, Mr. Johns worked as an engineer and later as a project manager for Sippican Ocean Systems where was awarded a patent on plastic blow molding.
He is a graduate of Union College with a BSME.
He currently volunteers his time as a member of the BOD for U.S.
Sailing (the governing body of sailing in the United States) and as a member of the Executive Committee for the U.S.
Olympic Sailing Committee.
He has previously been a member & treasurer of the BOD for Sail America (marine industry association) and a member of the U.S.
Sailing Team.
