Conservation Resource Alliance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring and preserving natural ecosystems across northwest Michigan’s 15-county region. The non-profit company is based in Traverse City, MI. The organization focuses on river care and watershed restoration, using science-based and collaborative approaches to improve water quality, habitat connectivity, and ecosystem resilience. Its flagship River Care program addresses stream crossing replacements, dam removals, erosion control, instream habitat enhancement, and wetland restoration to support fisheries, wildlife, and community needs. Conservation Resource Alliance leads multi-year projects such as the Mitchell Creek Meadows Restoration, Maple River Rehabilitation, and Little South Branch Habitat Enhancement, partnering with tribal entities, government agencies, landowners, and conservation groups. These projects remove barriers to fish passage, re-meander streams, install large woody debris, restore riparian wetlands, and improve public access for recreation and environmental education. In 2019, the organization launched Wild Roots, a reforestation program that has planted over 112,500 native trees and shrubs to rebuild ecosystems, combat climate change, and support healthy waterways. Wild Roots engages landowners through cost-sharing and community volunteer efforts, emphasizing forest cultivation as integral to watershed health. Conservation Resource Alliance maintains transparency and community engagement through newsletters, project updates, interactive maps, and opportunities for public involvement.
