James D. Motta

Mr. Motta is is the President of Starwood Land Company, LLC (“Starwood Land”), With headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Starwood Land is dedicated to creating truly unique residential and leisure destinations throughout the Eastern United States and the Caribbean.
Mr. Motta is focused on developing a full complement of residential, resort, hotel and mixed-use developments for a broad spectrum of customers.
With nearly 30 years experience in community development, Mr. Motta is recognized for his vision and leadership in creating master-planned residential and resort communities, and commercial and industrial facilities across the nation.
Prior to joining Starwood Land, Mr. Motta was President of the Motta Group, a Florida-based development company specializing in resort and residential communities.
He previously served as President and Chief Executive Officer for St. Joe/Arvida Company, the residential real estate development and services arm of The St. Joe Company (NYSE: JOE).
Formerly he was President and Chief Executive Officer for Arvida Company which had operations in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Texas and California.
Throughout its history, Arvida built more than 60 master-planned communities comprising more than 40,000 new homes, and developed approximately 5 million square feet of commercial and industrial facilities.
Mr. Motta is a graduate of the University of Florida.
He is a licensed general contractor and real estate broker.
He is an active member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), serving on its Recreation Development Council and the Executive Board of ULI’s Southeast and Caribbean Council.
He was a Founding Member of Education Partners, a company which serves to bring world-class educational experiences to public and private schools systems.
