WSCM develops a client's personal investment guidelines and creates and manages a portfolio based on the client’s individual objectives, time horizons, risk tolerance, and liquidity needs. The firm’s top-down investment approach emphasizes quality and growth at a reasonable price. They invest in businesses with strong balance sheets that are leaders in their respective industries. WSCM’s investment committee develops a macroeconomic view, which informs their asset allocation.

Wellington uses a bottom-up approach to look for growth in every company they buy, but they are not wedded to a specific style. Most portfolios hold a common list of high quality growth companies, yet each portfolio is custom-tailored with respect to the securities held and the equity/fixed-income allocation. All securities are approved after in-house research by a group of senior portfolio managers. Individual portfolio managers then determine which of the securities should be placed in a given account.
