NorSun AS manufactures and markets monocrystalline silicon ingots and wafers. The firm produces single crystal silicon wafers from polysilicon. Its core industry domain is the solar energy segment, in particular the polysilicon sourcing to wafer slicing portion of the photovoltaic value chain. It uses the Czochralski process whereby polysilicon is melted in a crystal puller, a seed crystal is lowered into the melt and a single crystal ingot is slowly pulled out of the molten metal, thereby establishing the atomic order. The company was founded by Alf Bjørseth in 2005 and is headquartered in Oslo, Norway.
