The firm's history dates to 1785 when Christian Gottfried Jäger founded a trading house in Düsseldorf. Christian Gottfried Trinkaus, one of the founder's nephews, took over the firm in 1852, naming it C.G. Trinkaus. In 1972, C.G. Trinkaus merged with Bankhaus Burkhardt & Co., changing their name to Trinkaus & Burkhardt. They became HSBC Trinkaus & Burkhardt KGaA in 1999.
