The firm (formerly Bailard, Biehl and Kaiser prior to its re-naming in 2005) was founded in 1969 by three graduates of the Stanford Graduate School of Business. They are a wholly owned subsidiary of BB&K Holdings, Inc. Bailard provides investment advisory and financial planning services and offers single asset strategies to investors on a standalone basis. The firm manages separate accounts for institutional clients and provides advisory and sub-advisory services to pooled investment vehicles.

In 2022, Voya Investment Management Co. LLC, which is ultimately owned by Voya Financial, Inc. (NYSE: VOYA), acquired the firm from Allianz SE (ETR: ALV). The firm was also previously known as Dresdner RCM Global Investors. RCM is a division of RCM U.S. Holdings LLC and their ultimate parent is Allianz SE. RCM manages portfolios for individuals and institutions. They also manage the Allianz/Dresdner family of mutual funds.
