Harischandra Abeygunawardena

Harischandra Abeygunawardena is currently the Chairman of the National Education Commission, an Independent Non-Executive Director at Bairaha Farms Plc, a Member of the University of Kelaniya, a Member of the National Institute of Education, the Chancellor of the University of Vocational Technology, and a Member of the Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Institute.
Previously, he served as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya from 2006 to 2008, a Member of the Governors Board at the Postgraduate Institute of Management, the President and Secretary of the Sri Lanka Veterinary Association and the Sri Lanka College of Veterinary Surgeons respectively, and a Member of the Governors Board at the Arthur C.
Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies and the National Science Foundation of Sri Lanka.
He was also a Member of the University Grants Commission from 2009 to 2015.
Dr. Abeygunawardena received his undergraduate degree from the University of Peradeniya in 1977 and his graduate and doctorate degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1985 and 1987 respectively.
