Smith is a Chief Compliance Officer at Messner & Smith Theme Value Investment Management Ltd.
Prior to co-founding Messner & Smith in 1984, he owned and managed his own investment advisory firm, Ellis C.
Smith Investment Counsel, which was established in 1974 until it merged with Meridian Capital Management.
Before that, he was a Portfolio Manager and Administrator for the retirement fund of a large California construction company.
In addition, he served as a Commissioned Officer in the United States Naval Reserve.
He has served as Chairman of the Board of the San Diego Downtown YMCA and past President of the Executive’s Association of San Diego.
Mr. Smith received his Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Business Administration, University of California Los Angeles, in 1965, and pursued graduate studies at San Diego State University.
