Amarananda Somasiri Jayawardena has been serving as Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and Chairman of the Monetary Board since November 1995.
He was Chairman of Bank of Ceylon and Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka.
Previously, Mr. Jayawardena served as Alternate Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund, Washington, DC from 1981 to 1986.
He was General Manager of Bank of Ceylon from 1976 to 1977.
Mr. Jayawardena received a Master's degree in Public Administration from Harvard University in 1975 and an MS degree in Public Sector Economics from the London School of Economics as well as he received degrees from University of Ceylon, Peradeniya; Royal College, Colombo; and St. Thomas' College, Matale, Sri Lanka.
