Satoru Iwata|岩田 聡|Iwata Satoru}} es el cuarto presidente de Nintendo, la prestigiosa compañía de videojuegos. Sucedió al fallecido Hiroshi Yamauchi, quien dimitió en el año 2002. Al contrario que su predecesor, que ejercía la presidencia solo, Iwata está acompañado por un consejo ejecutivo de seis miembros.

De los tres presidentes de las tres compañías que compiten actualmente en la industria del videojuego, Iwata es el único que ha participado y participa en el proceso del diseño y elaboración de videojuegos. De hecho es uno de los responsables de títulos muy importantes tales como Super Smash Bros. (Incluyendo Super Smash Bros., Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros Brawl y Super Smash Bros para 3DS y Wii U) o Kirby (Dream Land), entre muchos otros.

Biografía
Satoru Iwata nació el 6 de diciembre de 1959 en Sapporo. Ya desde pequeño mostró mucho interés en la creación de videojuegos, ya que en su ambiente había muchos. Durante sus años en el instituto hizo pequeños juegos de números con la calculadora, que compartía con sus compañeros. Después de terminar la secundaria entró en el prestigioso Instituto Tecnológico de Tokyo, para graduarse en Informática.

Durante su estancia en dicho centro, su pasión por los videojuegos y los ordenadores le llevó a formar un grupo de aficionados de esta temática. Uno de sus lugares favoritos era la tienda Ikebukuro Seibu, una de las primeras en tener un departamento dedicado a los ordenadores personales. El 21 de febrero de 1980 el gerente de ese departamento fundó HAL Laboratory, junto a este grupo de aficionados, en los que además de Satoru estaba Masahito Tanimura, actual presidente de HAL.
