The firm was founded late 1999 through the merger of the private equity operation of Gothaer Versicherungsbank, which originated in the 1970s, and the BB-K investment portfolio acquired by Gothaer from Berliner Bank Kapitalbeteiligungsgesellschaft in 1999. capiton became independent in 2004 through a management buyout.
