Founded in 2007, Mizuho Alternative Investments LLC (MAI) is a SEC-registered investment advisor and hedge fund manager located in New York City. The firm was owned by Mizuho Bank Ltd., a bank headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, and Mizuho Securities Co. Ltd., a broker-dealer headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. Effective July 1, 2016, as a result of reorganization of Mizuho’s US-based entities into a US bank holding company, MAI is now wholly-owned by Mizuho Americas LLC, a US bank holding company of the Mizuho Financial Group, Inc. (NYSE: MFG). MAI is also registered with the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) as a commodity trading advisor (CTA). MAI's discretionary advisory clients are pooled investment vehicles. These private investment funds are generally established in the Cayman Islands as unit investment trusts, private investment partnerships or investment companies and may retain MAI is an investment advisor or sub-advisor. In addition, MAI acts as sub-advisor to an investment fund that is registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940, as amended.
