Mohammed Asmal

Mohammed Asmal, M.D., Ph.D., is a Venture Partner with OrbiMed.
Prior to joining OrbiMed, Dr. Asmal led clinical research and development in gene therapies for rare diseases at Bluebird Bio.
His prior experience has included leading clinical trials in oncology and infectious diseases at Vertex Pharmaceuticals and attending on the Infectious Disease service at Brigham and Women's Hospital.
He has published scientific articles in peer reviewed journals on HIV pathogenesis and vaccine research.
Dr. Asmal received his A.B.
degree magna cum laude in Biological Sciences and Biomedical Engineering from Harvard University and his joint M.D.-Ph.D.
from Columbia University where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
