In 1982, Jim Clark, a leading researcher of computer graphics, established Silicon Graphics, Inc. at a laboratory in the Stanford University. Its visualization technology created a revolution of computer graphics in Hollywood and brought computer graphics innovations to a wide variety of fields including entertainment, science and research, culture and manufacturing. To develop these kinds of businesses, SGI Japan, Ltd was founded in 1987. SGI Japan conducted an advanced experiment of the Japan-first Video-On-Demand (VOD) system over fiber optics in Japan with NTT in 1995. This was only one of SGI's early innovative challenges to lead the age of Internet toward broadband infrastracture. Cray Research LLC merged with SGI in 1996, since then that legacy has delivered extensively sophisticated computer simulations in the fields of advanced science and technology and manufacturing. Leading the high-performance computing field, SGI has been supporting development of various computer simulations in cutting-edge science and manufacturing. In 2001, strengthening partnerships including capital investments with major business enterprises in the country, SGI Japan was reborn from a wholly owned subsidiary of US-based Silicon Graphics, Inc. as a hybrid business enterprise to strongly root itself in the Japanese market. Based on its three core competencies 'Visualization', 'Scalability' and 'Broadband', SGI Japan continues to establish advanced computing environments ahead of its time. Now that Japan's broadband and ubiquitous infrastructure is rapidly improving, SGI Japan's unique and comprehensive solutions, based on its technologies, experience and best practices accumulated since its establishment, are able to resolve its customers' content management challenges in all fields of industry.
