Dr. Martin Spielauer is a Senior Economist at Österreichisches Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung.
He has been working in the Research Group "Labor Market, Income and Social Security" since 2016.
His main research interest and competence is the development of simulation models for the study of transfer- and social insurance systems in the context of demographic change.
In the EC-funded project Weltransim, he leads the development of the multi-country microsimulation model microWELT for the comparative analysis of welfare state regimes.
In a cross-border collaboration, he supports the implementation of the Slovenian pension microsimulation model DypenSi.
As a consultant for the World Bank, he is the lead developer of Dynamis-Pop, a portable model for population, education, and health applications in developing countries.
He spent 9 years at Statistics Canada's Socio-Economic Modelling Division and 3 years at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research.
He held research positions at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, the Austrian Institute for Family Studies, and the TU Vienna.
He obtained his Ph.D.
in Social Sciences and Economics at the University of Vienna.
