Dr. Dorothea Schäfer is a Research Director at The German Institute for Economic Research.
She is also an Adjunct Professor of Jönköping International Business School at the Jönköping University, an Evaluator for the European Commission, for the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and Chairwoman of evaluation committee for LOEWE (Landes-Offensive zur Entwicklung Wissenschaftlich-ökonomischer Exzellenz des Bundeslandes Hessen), as well as Head of various research projects supported e.g., by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), the EU Commission, the Fritz Thyssen Foundation and the Stiftung Geld und Währung.
She published in various journals such as Journal of Financial Stability, German Economic Review, International Journal of Money and Finance, Economics of Transition, Journal of Comparative Economics, Small Business Economics, Economic Modelling, and Journal of Institutional and Theoretical Economics.
She is regularly invited as an expert in parliamentary committees, including the Finance Committee of the Bundestag, and gives lectures on financial market issues in Germany and abroad.
She is a member of the Editorial Board and Editor-in-Chief of the policy-oriented journal “Vierteljahrs Hefte zur Wirtschaftsforschung” (Quarterly Journal for Economic Research).
Her work and research cover financial crisis, financial market regulation, financing constraints, gender, and financial markets.
She was a member of the “Progress Forum” (organized by the FES, Hans Buckler Foundation, and Otto Brenner Foundation) to accompany the work of the Enqueue Commission of the German Bundestag “Growth – Prosperity – Quality of Life (2012-2013) and has advised the project group “Sustainable Governance Policy” (Nachhaltige Ordnungspolitik) of the Enqueue Commission.
