He was elected to Cambridge City Council for nearly 20 years.
Amongst his appointments, he was Chairman of the City Finance committee and Leader of the Council.
He served 8 years as Chairman of a local Sixth form College and six years as Governor of St Johns College School where he chaired the School Fund raising committee for new developments.
He has also served on the Emmaus Charity under the Chairmanship of Terry Waite.
