Mr. Hawkins joined OTD in 2007 and is focused on launching early stage companies based on BU research.
He recently completed the Harvard-MIT Biomedical Enterprise Program, an MS degree track for life science managers with a prior MBA.
Prior to moving to Boston, Al was a Co-founder and partner in Agave Group, a Madison, WI-based management consulting firm that served early stage companies and investors.
In five years at Agave Group, he led over 60 projects helping to launch and evaluate university start-ups.
He also co-founded Madison's High-tech Happy Hour, a networking event that attracts 100-200 executives and researchers each month.
In 2002, Mr. Hawkins founded TFX Bioscience, an early stage company developing antibiotics based on technologies licensed from the University of Wisconsin and the University of Minnesota.
He received an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has served on the boards of several small companies and non-profits.
