The firm was founded as Bancredito Administradora de Fondos Mutuos SA in 1988 to distribute mutual funds as an investment alternative for companies, as a vehicle for managing their cash surpluses. They changed their name to BCI Asset Management Administradora General de Fondos SA in 2008 and expanded their business to include investment fund management, private investment funds and portfolio management services. The firm was founded in 1981 by Grupo Cruzat Larraín after Chile launched the modern private pension system which established the private management of pension funds by corporations called Pension Fund Administrators (AFP).
