Amazon.com, Inc. is één van de marktleiders wereldwijd op het gebied van online distributie van producten voor het grote publiek. Verder ontwikkelt het concern een activiteit van marktplaats waar particulieren en distributiebedrijven hun in- en verkooptransacties van goederen en diensten kunnen uitvoeren. De activiteit wordt rond 3 product- en dienstenfamilies georganiseerd:

- elektronische en computerproducten: spelletjes, fototoestellen, pc's, laptops en randapparatuur, televisietoestellen, stereotorens, spelers, draadloze communicatieproducten, enz. Verder biedt Amazon.com keuken- en tuinapparatuur, kleding, schoonheidsproducten, enz.;

- culturele producten: boeken, muziekartikelen, videospelletjes en dvd's;

- overige: met name diensten op het gebied van de ontwikkeling van interfaces en Internetapplicaties.

De omzet per inkomstenbron wordt uitgesplitst tussen de verkoop van diensten (55,5%) en producten (44,5%).
