Dr. King is the Chairman of the King Committee on Corporate Governance, whose two reports (1994 and 2002) established the standards for corporate governance in South Africa.
He is a Senior Counsel and former judge of the Supreme Court of South Africa.
He has chaired and been a director of several companies listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, including First National Bank Holdings Ltd., Capital Alliance Ltd, Metro Cash & Carry Ltd, Checkers, Dion, Stuttafords, Rusfurn and Frame Group Holdings.
In South Africa, he is President of the Advertising Standards Authority and First Vice President of the Institute of Directors of Southern Africa.
Dr. King is Chairman of Brait South Africa Ltd, the Automobile Association of South Africa, Dunlop Africa Ltd and Strate Ltd and a director of JD Group Ltd and Afgri Ltd. Outside South Africa, he is Chairman of Brait S.A. listed in London, Luxembourg and Johannesburg, immediate past President of the Commonwealth Association of Corporate Governance, the South African representative of the International Chamber of Commerce International Court of Arbitration in Paris, a member of the Private Sector Advisory Group of the Global Corporate Governance Forum and a former Governor of The International Corporate Governance Network.
