Ian joined 3i in 1987 and became a Partner in 1994 prior to its IPO on the London Stock Exchange.
In his current role as Managing Partner, Asset Management, Ian is involved in investing and asset management activity across 3i Private Equity and Infrastructure.
He sits on the boards of a number of leading, international companies including: AESSEAL (seals for rotating equipment), Cirtec Medical (medical device outsourcing) and Tato Holdings (biocides and specialty chemicals).
Ian is the senior independent director of BSI Group, the global standards and services company driving company excellence and resilience, and a former director of 3i Infrastructure plc, the FTSE250 listed long-term investor in infrastructure businesses and assets.
Prior to his current role, Ian led 3i’s Technology business in Europe having invested in areas including security software (Sophos), artificial intelligence (Searchspace), mobile technology (Nujira).
Ian graduated in Chemical Engineering from the University of Birmingham.
Prior to 3i, Ian worked as an Engineer for BOC Specialty Gases in the UK supplying the medical, semi-conductor and space research sectors.
